Shockey Family History

The Shockey Coat of Arms was prepared and painted by Mrs. Julia O. Morhead of (Wythe County) Wytheville, Virginia in 1967.

A search of the United States Congressional records reveals the following:

"The Shockey family Coat of Arms is recorded by Sir Bernard Burke in his General Army. Colors represent the characteristics of the bearer of the Arms. Red (Courage) Gold (Generosity).

Changes upon the shield are marks of distinction. The fesse-(band) is a symbol of high rank in the military service. The escallops-(shell) is a symbol of one who took part in the crusades to the Holy Land.

The helmet is an emblum of knighhood."
